Mead is honey wine. It is made when honey is fermented with water or fruit juices. It is thought that mead was the first alcoholic drink produced by man. Honey was available in the wild with little required to harvest the honey. The first batch was likely conceived by mistake when it rained into a honey filled container. The wild yeast took over creating an alcoholic beverage. Instead of discarding the mess, the concoction was consumed likely causing the first happy hour.
